Gigron

Is your gutter leaking at the joints, overflowing even after cleaning or sagging on its hooks? Then it is time for a new one. When you search for gutter cost per metre, you get figures anywhere from five to around forty euros. The spread is wide because some quotes cover only materials, some only labour, and some the full job with downpipes, hooks and scaffolding.

This guide gives you approximate 2026 prices in Croatia for gutter materials and installation: galvanised and coated steel, PVC, aluminium and copper. You will also find examples from real requests, a worked example for a house with 40 m of gutters and questions to ask a tradesperson before you agree on the job.

Gutter cost per metre: approximate ranges

The figures below are approximate ranges from public contractor price lists, tradesperson request portals and shops in Croatia (2026). They are not a Gigron offer or a fixed price. They depend on the material, the height of the house, access and what the quote includes. Some price lists include VAT (PDV) and some do not, so always check.

Item Approx. (€/m)
Gutters with materials and installation, depending on steel and coating ~7–25
Supply and installation of galvanised steel gutters ~13–15
Copper gutters with installation ~40
Labour only: gutter installation (excl. VAT) ~9.60
Labour only: downpipe installation (excl. VAT) ~9.10
Galvanised gutter 333 mm (material) ~9
Galvanised downpipe Ø 100 mm (material) ~10
PVC gutter Ø 125 mm (material) ~5

On top of the metres you pay for small parts by the piece. In shops a galvanised hook costs about €3.70, an outlet (kotlić) about €9.90 and a gutter end cap about €5.30 (incl. VAT, October 2026). According to one labour price list, fitting an outlet is about €12 per piece and a downpipe bracket about €3.50 per piece, excl. VAT.

Gutter installation cost: examples from real requests

On one tradesperson request portal in 2026, approximate estimates for gutter jobs looked like this:

Job (town, month) Approx. price
Aluminium gutter on a ground floor, 3.5 m + 1.5 m downpipe (Split, October) ~€149–248
Replacing ~4.5 m of gutter, scaffolding already up (Solin, August) ~€135–225
Repairing 4–6 m of gutter, adjusting fall and hooks (Zagreb, August) ~€90–150
Replacing 6 m of gutter + 9 m of downpipe (Baška, October) ~€297–495
New standard gutter, 20 m, work from a balcony (Trogir, August) ~€315–525
Replacing 26 m of gutters on balconies, two-storey house (Zagreb County, August) ~€540–900
Bungalow: 2 × 12.5 m of gutter, 2 downpipes and chimney flashing (Kaštel Stari, September) ~€720–1,200
Titanium-zinc gutters, 50 m and 3 downpipes, hooks already fitted (Kampor, September) ~€1,485–2,475

You can see that on short jobs the price per metre looks high. The tradesperson still has to come out with tools and ladders, so even the smallest job in these requests was not estimated below €90. On longer runs each metre gets cheaper.

Gutter prices by material

The material has the biggest effect on the price per metre:

Metal gutters often come in 280/80, 333/100 and 400/120 systems. The first number is the width of the sheet the gutter is bent from, and the second is the downpipe diameter in millimetres. The size you need depends on the roof area, so let the tradesperson work it out.

Gutter replacement cost: what else you pay for

When you replace gutters, the price covers more than the metres:

  1. Removing old gutters and hooks. Usually charged separately, per metre.
  2. Taking away the old metal. Ask who removes it and whether it costs extra.
  3. New hooks. If the old ones are sound and well placed, they can sometimes stay. If they are rusty or the gutter has no fall, they get replaced.
  4. Downpipes, elbows and outlets. Charged per metre or per piece.
  5. Scaffolding, a lift or rope access. On a two-storey house or taller building this can cost more than the gutter itself.
  6. Repairs around the gutter. A rotten fascia board or damaged flashing often shows up only once the old gutter comes off.

If you are about to redo the roof or the facade, replace the gutters at the same time. The scaffolding is already up, so you do not pay for it twice. For facade prices, see facade insulation cost per m².

Example: new gutters on a bungalow

This is a made-up example, for orientation only. Say you have a bungalow of about 10 × 10 m with a hipped roof. The gutter runs around the whole house, about 40 m, with four 3 m downpipes at the corners. You choose galvanised steel, and the roof edge is reachable from a ladder.

Item Calculation Approx. (€)
Gutter, material (galvanised, 333 mm) 40 m × ~€9 ~360
Downpipes, material (Ø 100 mm) 12 m × ~€10 ~115
Gutter installation, labour 40 m × €9.60 ~385
Downpipe installation, labour 12 m × €9.10 ~110
Fitting outlets 4 × ~€12 ~50
Hooks, corners, elbows, brackets, end caps per piece —
Total (excl. small parts and VAT on labour) ~1,020

A real quote can be lower or higher. Some contractors charge a complete price per metre, with materials and labour together. Expect more for coated steel or a two-storey house. With PVC gutters, the material alone for 40 m of gutter costs about €200.

What to watch for when gutters are installed

  1. Fall towards the downpipe. The gutter needs a slight fall, otherwise water sits and overflows. For one PVC gutter system the stated minimum is 2 mm per metre.
  2. Enough hooks. Hooks carry the gutter plus the weight of water and snow. With too few, the gutter sags over time.
  3. The right size. On a large roof, a gutter that is too small or too few downpipes means overflowing in heavy rain.
  4. Joints. Leaks most often start at joints, corners and outlets. Ask how they are sealed.
  5. Where the water goes. The downpipe should end in a drain or away from the foundations, not right against the wall.
  6. Matching metals. Do not join copper to galvanised steel. Different metals in contact corrode faster.

When water does not go where it should, it ends up in the facade and the foundations. If you already see stains on the wall, see the guide damp and mould on walls.

Questions to ask before you agree on the job

  1. Is the price per metre labour only or with materials?
  2. Is VAT included?
  3. What material and sheet thickness, and which colour?
  4. Are downpipes, hooks, outlets and elbows included?
  5. Does the price include removing and taking away the old gutters?
  6. Is scaffolding or a lift needed, and who pays for it?
  7. How long is the warranty on the work?

Compare at least two or three quotes with the same items. The lowest price per metre often means something is left out. According to one portal, the warranty on sheet-metal work is usually 2–5 years.

When to call a tradesperson through Gigron

You can fit a PVC gutter on a garage or carport yourself if you are working low and safely. Metal gutters, a two-storey house and the connection to the roof are a job for a roofer or tinsmith. Mistakes in the fall and joints only show up in the first heavy rain.

On Gigron, see the roofs category. If you are in Zagreb, see roofers in Zagreb. If gutter water has already damaged the facade, there is facade repair.

If your gutter just needs cleaning rather than replacing, see the guide how to clean gutters. For other jobs before winter, there is preparing your home for winter.

Frequently asked questions

Can gutters be replaced in winter?

Yes, if it is dry and there is no ice on the roof. Nobody works at height in rain, snow or strong wind. If your gutter is already leaking, book a date soon, because there can be a wait in busy season.

Which is better: PVC or metal gutters?

PVC is cheaper, light and does not rust, so it works well on a garage, carport or smaller house. Metal gutters are stronger and usually cope better with snow, ice and knocks. On family houses, coated galvanised steel is the most common choice.

Can I replace just part of a gutter?

Yes, if the rest of the gutter is sound. The tradesperson replaces the damaged section, elbow or outlet. On one request portal, repairing 4 to 6 metres of gutter in Zagreb was estimated at about €90–150. If the gutter leaks in several places or is rusty, a new one is often better value.

In short: gutter cost per metre in Croatia in 2026 is roughly €7–25 with materials and installation, depending on the steel and coating. Labour alone for gutter installation is about €9.60 per metre excl. VAT. Copper goes up to about €40/m, and PVC is the cheapest. Downpipes, hooks, removal and scaffolding push the total up. So ask for a quote per metre and in total, with every item listed.
