How to write a request to a tradesperson: template and 5 examples
A short request often gets a slow reply. The tradesperson cannot tell whether it is one shelf, a bathroom or a whole flat, so they have to ask first. A request that says it upfront gets a faster answer, and the quotes are easier to compare.
Here you get a template you can copy and five examples for the jobs people ask for most often.
What to put in your request
Describe the job the way you would explain it to a neighbour:
- What exactly needs doing, and what is not part of the job.
- Where: city and neighbourhood. Keep the street and house number for later.
- When: urgent, this week or whenever they can, and whether the deadline is fixed.
- Size: floor area, number of items or dimensions.
- Condition: what you can see on site, such as cracks, damp or an old layer.
- Materials: whether you already have them or the tradesperson should bring them.
- Access: floor, lift, parking, water and power.
- Photos: one or two pictures save five questions.

Before you post
Read the request as someone who sees the job for the first time. If it is not clear when the job is finished, add that. Choose the category by the job, not by the tool. You can browse services on the categories page.
When tradespeople reply, compare what is included in the price, the timing and any guarantee on the work. A profile helps you choose, but it does not replace a short chat about timing and scope. To see how it all works, read how Gigron works.

Frequently asked questions
How detailed should my request be?
Five to eight sentences are enough: what, where, when, how much, what condition and who buys the materials. Photos are worth more than a long description.
Should I include a budget?
It is optional. If you have one, a rough budget shortens the conversation because the tradespeople who reply know it works for them.
Should I give my exact address?
No. City and neighbourhood are enough. Give the exact address to the tradesperson you agree on.
