Woman unlocking a new security door of a flat in a building

Gigron

Is your old wooden flat door easy to force, does the lock stick, or can you hear every sound from the stairwell? That is usually when people start looking at security doors. Search for security door cost with installation in Croatia and you will see figures from around 200 to 2,500 euros. The gap is big because some sellers quote only the door, others include fitting, and some also add masonry work, a threshold and removal of the old door.

This guide gives you approximate 2026 prices for security doors for flats and houses in Croatia, explains what the RC2 and RC3 resistance classes mean, how much installation alone costs and which extras push the bill up. At the end you will find an example for a flat, questions to ask the installer and a sample request.

Security door cost with installation: approximate ranges

The figures below are approximate ranges from public price lists and offers of Croatian shops and installers. They are not a Gigron offer or a fixed price. They depend on the city, resistance class, lock, panels, size and what the quote includes. Many prices are promotional and some apply only to cash or bank transfer payment, so always check.

What you pay for Approx. (€ per door)
Basic flat entrance door from a DIY store, no installation, no RC class stated ~180–300
Security door, entry-level models, door only ~380–870
RC2 security door with installation ~700–1,000
RC3 security door with installation and removal of the old door ~1,000–1,700
Made-to-measure door, wood cladding, transom or finishing work ~1,800–2,500 and up
Installation only: removing the old door and fitting the new one ~260–390

For mid-range doors that suit most flats, quotes with installation are most often around €800–1,000. RC3 doors with installation and removal of the old door start at about €1,150 in Zagreb, and better-equipped models cost around €1,600.

The cheapest doors in DIY stores usually have no resistance class stated. They can replace a worn-out door, but they are not security doors in the proper sense.

RC2 or RC3: which class do you need

Security doors are rated in resistance classes RC1 to RC6 under the European standard EN 1627. The class comes from a test in which the door has to withstand an attack with specific tools for a set time. For flats and houses you will mostly choose between RC2 and RC3.

Class What it withstands Who it suits
RC2 About 3 minutes of attack with simple tools: screwdriver, pliers, wedge A flat on an upper floor with neighbours around
RC3 About 5 minutes of attack with bigger tools: crowbar, hammer, larger screwdriver A house, a ground-floor flat, an easy-to-reach entrance, valuables at home
RC4 and higher Stronger tools and longer time Commercial premises and special requirements, rarely flats

RC2 is the most common choice for flats today. RC3 costs a few hundred euros more but is often recommended for ground floors and houses. If a seller just says "security door", ask for the exact class and the certificate. The class should also be marked on a plate on the door itself.

What affects the price of a security door most

Security door installation: cost and what is included

Security doors weigh about 70–100 kg, so installation costs more than for ordinary entrance doors. On installers' public price lists, security door installation including removal of the old door is roughly €260–390. Many companies that sell and fit doors already include installation in the package price.

Basic installation usually includes:

The fitting itself usually takes 2–3 hours. Made-to-measure doors take time, with some installers quoting 15–20 working days from order, so plan ahead.

Watch how the frame is fixed. For security doors, expert guides recommend steel anchors set in two-component chemical resin. Expanding foam and ordinary screws are not enough. If the frame is weakly fixed, the resistance class on paper means little, because the whole frame can be pulled out of the wall.

Extras that push the bill up

Item Approx. (€)
Removing an old metal frame ~210
Masonry work around the frame, inside and outside ~160–200
Bricking up a transom above the door ~170
Removal and disposal of the old door ~34–40
Stone threshold with seal (10–20 cm deep) ~50–105
MDF trim cladding of the reveals, per side ~150

Masonry work on the reveals is often not part of the package. Ask the installer to put it in the quote before work starts, not once the old door is already out.

Example: a security door for a flat in a building

This is a made-up example, for orientation only. Say you are replacing an old wooden door with a wooden frame in a third-floor flat in Zagreb. The opening is about 100 × 205 cm and you want an RC3 door.

Item Approx. (€)
RC3 door with installation, removal and disposal of the old door ~1,150–1,650
Masonry work around the frame ~160–200
Stone threshold, if not in the package ~50–80
Total ~1,360–1,930

If an old metal frame has to come out instead of a wooden one, add about €210. If RC2 is enough for you, the same job can come out a few hundred euros cheaper.

Questions worth asking before you order

  1. What is the exact resistance class (RC2, RC3) and does the door have a certificate?
  2. How thick is the steel and how many locking points are there?
  3. Which lock and cylinder are used, and does the cylinder have an outside guard?
  4. Is installation included and what exactly does it cover?
  5. How is the frame anchored to the wall?
  6. Are removal and disposal of the old door included?
  7. Are the threshold, trim and masonry work on the reveals included?
  8. What is the delivery and installation lead time?
  9. How long is the warranty on the door, and how long on the installation?

Compare at least two or three quotes with the same items. The lowest price often means something from this list is missing.

When to call a tradesperson through Gigron

A security door is not a weekend job. It is heavy, the frame must be perfectly plumb and firmly anchored, and the lock has to be adjusted properly. Otherwise the door is hard to lock, lets noise through and does not protect the way it should.

On Gigron, see the categories entrance doors and doors. If you are in Zagreb, see entrance doors in Zagreb and doors in Zagreb. There are also doors in Split, doors in Rijeka and entrance doors in Osijek. For the lock and cylinder see locksmith work, and for the reveals around the frame masonry work.

I would like RC3 and a dark wood decor. Please quote with installation, removal of the old door, a threshold and finishing of the reveals. Zagreb, Trešnjevka. Next month works for me."

Frequently asked questions

How long does security door installation take?

The fitting itself usually takes 2–3 hours. If a metal frame has to be removed or masonry work is needed, it takes longer. Finishing plaster and paint work around the frame is often needed afterwards.

Can I install a security door myself?

It is not recommended. The door is heavy, and the frame must be exactly plumb and firmly anchored. Poor installation reduces the protection the door is meant to give.

Is RC3 worth it for a flat?

If the flat is on the ground floor, has an entrance that is easy to reach from outside, or you keep valuables at home, RC3 makes sense. For an upper-floor flat in a building with neighbours, RC2 is the most common choice.

In short: security door cost with installation in Croatia is most often around €700–1,000 for RC2 and around €1,000–1,700 for RC3. It depends mostly on the class, lock, size and what the quote includes. Installation alone is roughly €260–390, while masonry work, a threshold and removing a metal frame can push the bill up. So ask for an itemised quote.
