Entrance door cost with installation: PVC vs aluminium (2026)
Is your old front door letting in the cold, hard to lock, or just looking worn out? Before winter is a good time to replace it. The first question is always the same: how much will it cost? When you search for entrance door prices, you get numbers from about €230 to €2,500, because some offers cover only the door and others include fitting.
This guide gives you approximate prices for Croatia in 2026, a PVC vs aluminium comparison, what pushes the price up and how much entrance door installation costs. At the end there is a list of what to put in your request so you get quotes you can compare.

Entrance door cost in 2026: approximate ranges
The figures below are approximate ranges taken from public price lists of shops, manufacturers and installers in Croatia. They are not a Gigron offer or a fixed price. They depend on the city, dimensions, hardware and what the quote includes. Most price lists include VAT, but always check.
| Door type | Approx. (€ per door) |
|---|---|
| PVC door from a DIY store, standard size, no fitting | ~230–650 |
| PVC entrance door with installation (installer, often made to measure) | ~600–1,800 |
| Thermally broken aluminium entrance door, with installation | ~1,200–2,500 |
| Wooden entrance door with installation | ~800–1,850 |
| Security door for a flat, with installation | ~700–1,700 |
| Large or double aluminium door with side glazing | from ~2,500 up |
| Installation only of a ready-made door (standard opening) | ~55–100 |
| Removal and disposal of the old door | ~50–100 |
The cheapest PVC doors in DIY stores often come without a handle and cylinder, and you pay for fitting separately. Installers usually sell a package: door, hardware, fitting and sealing. Installer quotes for a PVC entrance door with installation are most often around €900–1,400, and around €1,300–2,100 for aluminium.
The range within one door type is bigger than the difference between PVC and aluminium. A well-equipped PVC door can cost as much as a basic aluminium one.
PVC vs aluminium: comparison
| Comparison | PVC entrance door | Aluminium entrance door |
|---|---|---|
| Price with installation | ~€600–1,800 | ~€1,200–2,500 |
| Thermal insulation | Good (multi-chamber profile) | Good only with a thermal break |
| Stability | Lower; a wide leaf can sag over the years | Very stable, also for wide and heavy doors |
| Strong sun and dark colours | Dark PVC in strong sun can warp | Handles sun and heat well |
| Look | Simpler, lots of colours and finishes | More modern, slimmer frames, more glass |
| Best for | Flats, covered entrances, smaller budgets | Houses, entrances exposed to sun and rain, larger doors |
Wooden doors look warm, but outdoors they need regular varnishing or painting. For a flat in an apartment building, security doors are a common choice (more on them below).
PVC entrance doors: price and who they suit
PVC is the most common choice when you want good insulation for less money. It works well for a house with a covered entrance and for a flat. If you want a dark colour and the entrance faces south, ask whether the leaf has steel reinforcement.
Aluminium entrance doors: price and who they suit
Aluminium costs more, but it is more stable and looks new for a long time. It is a good fit for an uncovered entrance, wider doors and large glazed areas. Always ask for a profile with a thermal break, because aluminium without one conducts cold easily.
Entrance doors for a flat in an apartment building
Doors facing the stairwell are not exposed to rain and sun, so flats most often get security doors with a steel structure and veneered panels. For a flat, security class RC2 or RC3 is usually enough. RC3 doors with installation and removal of the old door start at around €1,150 in Zagreb. For resistance classes, installation-only cost and extras, see the guide security door cost with installation.
What affects the price of an entrance door most
- Dimensions. A standard opening is about 90–110 × 200–210 cm. Wider or taller doors, a fixed side panel or glazing above the door raise the price.
- Profile. For PVC, the number of chambers and profile depth (e.g. 70 or 82 mm); for aluminium, the thermal break. A deeper profile usually insulates better.
- Leaf infill. A flat panel, a grooved or decorative panel. A panel that covers the whole leaf costs more than a standard infill.
- Glass. A solid leaf is the cheapest. Any glass adds to the price, and triple or safety glass even more.
- Hardware and lock. Multi-point locking, a quality anti-snap cylinder, a pull handle, an electronic lock or a fingerprint reader.
- Security class. RC2, RC3 and higher mean a stronger structure and lock, and a higher price.
- Colour and finish. White is usually the cheapest. Anthracite, other RAL colours and wood-effect finishes cost more.
- Removing the old door. If an old steel frame or a wooden frame built into the wall has to come out, there is more work.
- Masonry work. Repairing the reveals, plastering and skimming around the frame, a new threshold. This is often a separate item.
- Made to measure or standard. Made-to-measure doors cost more, but in older houses the opening rarely matches a standard size.
Entrance door installation: cost and what is included
Fitting a ready-made door into a prepared opening is not expensive. Public price lists put it at roughly €55–100 per door. This usually covers setting and shimming the frame, checking level and diagonals, fixing, expanding foam, sealing and adjusting the leaf. A standard installation takes a few hours, and the foam and silicone need about 24 hours to cure fully.
The price goes up when more is needed:
- removal and disposal of the old door (roughly €50–100),
- widening or narrowing the opening,
- masonry work on the reveals and plaster around the frame,
- a new threshold in stone or aluminium,
- heavier and larger doors (aluminium, double doors, side glazing) that need two installers.
Installers who sell and fit doors often include installation in the package price. So ask for the quote to state exactly what is included: door, hardware, fitting, removal, disposal and finishing. If masonry work is charged separately, get the price in writing before work starts, not once the old door is already out.
Example: entrance door for a house, cost for a 100 × 210 cm opening
Say you are replacing an old wooden door on a house, and the opening is about 100 × 210 cm.
- PVC door, white, with a little glass and multi-point locking: roughly ~€900–1,400 including fitting, removal and disposal.
- Thermally broken aluminium door, anthracite, with a panel and pull handle: roughly ~€1,400–2,100.
- If the reveals need repair or you want a new threshold, that is an extra item. Ask the installer to price it when they come to measure.
Tips before you order
- Let the installer take the final measurement. A wrongly measured door is the most expensive mistake.
- Ask for the Ud value, the heat transfer coefficient of the whole door. The lower it is, the better the door insulates.
- Agree on the opening direction: left or right hand, opening inwards or outwards.
- Ask about delivery time. Made-to-measure doors often take several weeks, so order in good time.
- Check the warranty on the profile, hardware and installation.
- Compare at least two or three quotes with the same items.
When to hire a tradesperson through Gigron
You can buy a door from a store yourself, but leave the installation to a pro. An entrance door has to be level and well sealed, otherwise it lets in air, moisture and noise, and the lock gets harder to turn over time. Call a tradesperson as well when the opening needs widening, the reveals need repair or the lock needs replacing.
On Gigron, check the entrance doors and doors categories. If you are in Zagreb, see doors in Zagreb, and if you are in Osijek, entrance doors in Osijek. For the opening and reveals there is masonry work, and for locks and hardware locksmith and metalwork.

How to write a good request on Gigron
The clearer your request, the faster you get quotes you can compare. Include:
- door type: PVC, aluminium, wood or security door,
- opening size (width × height) and wall thickness, if you know them,
- where the door is: house or flat in a building, whether the entrance is covered, which way it faces,
- preferences: colour, glass, multi-point locking, security class,
- what else is needed: removal and disposal of the old door, masonry work, a new threshold,
- city, neighbourhood and timing that suit you.
Add photos of the old door from outside and inside.
Example: "I need a new entrance door for a house, PVC or aluminium, anthracite, with a little glass. The opening is about 100 × 210 cm. The old wooden door needs to be removed and taken away. The entrance faces south and is not covered. Please quote with installation and repair of the reveals. Zagreb, Sesvete. Next month works for me."

In short: the entrance door price depends on the material, dimensions, hardware and what the quote includes. PVC is cheaper and insulates well, while aluminium costs more but is more stable and handles sun better. Installation on its own is not expensive, but removing the old door and masonry work can push the bill up. So ask for an itemised quote.
