Movers carrying boxes from a Zagreb building to a van

Gigron

Moving out of a studio or a one-bedroom flat and wondering what it will cost? The good news: a small move rarely takes all day. Most are done in two to four hours. The bad news: prices vary a lot from one quote to the next.

Below you'll find ballpark prices, three concrete examples for Zagreb, and a few tips to pay less.

Packing boxes in a small studio flat before a move

How much does a small move cost

Most moving crews in Zagreb charge by the hour. A call-out fee is usually added, and many ask for a two-hour minimum.

Based on public price lists from Zagreb moving companies, roughly:

Across Croatia the picture is similar. A local move averages around €60 per hour, with a range of €35 to €125 per hour.

For a total figure, one Zagreb company quotes €50 to €200 for small moves (studio, one-bedroom) and €150 to €300 for a two- or three-bedroom flat.

These aren't fixed prices. Use them to check whether a quote you get is realistic.

Three examples for Zagreb

These are rough estimates based on the price lists above, not quotes. You get the real price only once the crew knows what you're moving.

1. Mini move: a few pieces and boxes. A bed, a cabinet and about ten boxes from Trešnjevka to Knežija. A van and one mover are enough, about two hours of work. Expect roughly €60–100.

2. Studio, 25 m², second floor with a lift. Moving from Novi Zagreb to Maksimir. A van and two movers, two to three hours. Expect roughly €100–200.

3. One-bedroom, 40 m², fourth floor, no lift. The wardrobe needs taking apart and the washing machine comes with you. Two or three movers, three to four hours. Expect roughly €200–350.

Floor and lift change the price more than distance within the city.

What pushes the price up

How to pay less

  1. Pack everything yourself. Seal and label boxes before the crew arrives, so you only pay for carrying and driving.
  2. Take apart what you can. Beds and shelves often take half an hour. Need help with a wardrobe? Find someone for wardrobe assembly.
  3. Get rid of clutter first. No need to move an old mattress or a broken table. For bigger items, see waste removal.
  4. Sort out parking. Ask neighbours or the building manager where the van can stop.
  5. Pick a weekday mid-month. Crews are less booked.
  6. Get several quotes. The same move can easily differ by €50 between two crews.

What to write when asking for a quote

The clearer your request, the more accurate the quote. Include:

Example: "Moving a studio from Trnje to Dubrava, both flats on the 3rd floor with a lift. Bed, sofa, washing machine and 15 boxes. Saturday 17 Oct or any weekday that week."

With two or three photos, a crew can usually give you a ballpark price without a visit.

The move is done, now the flat needs cleaning

Once your things are out, the old flat usually needs a deep clean before you hand back the keys. See our article on flat cleaning prices in Zagreb, or book a deep clean.
