Gas boiler & pellet stove service cost in Croatia (2026)
Heating season is starting, and it’s time for a gas boiler service. The first question is always the same: how much does it cost? Or you have a pellet stove and want to know what a pellet stove service costs. Good news: most service companies publish price lists, so you can know the rough range in advance.
This guide gives approximate 2026 Croatia prices, the difference between a minor and a major service, when to service your boiler, and how to write a request so you get quotes you can compare.
Short answer: in 2026, a regular gas boiler service in Croatia costs roughly €85–175, depending on the boiler type. A major service with descaling is about €140–235, and a pellet stove service about €90–150 plus travel.

Why service before winter, not in January
When it gets cold, everyone calls in the same week. Slots fill up, and a breakdown always comes when you need hot water most. Book the service in October or early November and you pick the date, not the breakdown.
A regular service isn’t just cleaning. The technician checks the burner, system pressure, expansion vessel, seals and safety components. On a gas boiler they also measure the flue gases. The appliance uses less fuel, runs quieter and lasts longer.
Is a gas boiler service mandatory?
There’s no single general deadline that applies to everyone. According to HEP Plin, gas appliances should be maintained within the intervals set by the manufacturer, with a recommendation of at least once a year, before the heating season. The service is done by technicians authorised by the manufacturer or its representative. After the service, they should give you a certificate that the appliance is in working order.
Keep that certificate. You need it for the warranty, and the gas distributor can ask for it, for example when the gas meter is replaced. The simple rule for owners: you are responsible for keeping the gas appliance in your flat or house safe and working.
For pellet stoves and boilers, a regular service is often a condition of the factory warranty. Check your warranty card.
Gas boiler service cost in 2026 (and pellet stoves)
The figures below are approximate ranges from public price lists of Croatian service companies (September–October 2026). They are not Gigron quotes or fixed prices. They depend on the city, brand, age of the appliance and distance.
| Service | Approx. (€, VAT incl.) |
|---|---|
| Instantaneous gas water heater service | ~85–125 € |
| Regular annual combi or system boiler service | ~100–175 € |
| Condensing boiler service | ~150–175 € |
| Service with chemical descaling (“major service”) | ~140–235 € |
| Call-out and fault diagnosis (no service) | ~25–55 € |
| Room pellet stove service | ~90–150 € |
| Pellet boiler service (central heating) | ~150–165 €, irregular service more |
| Travel cost for pellet stove service | often ~0.50 €/km |
During the season you’ll also see deals from around 50 € for a gas boiler service. Read the small print. They usually apply to one brand and one area only, and you pay extra for a condensing boiler or chemical descaling.
With pellet stoves, watch the travel cost. If the technician comes from another town, it adds up fast: 60 km there and back at 0.50 €/km is another 30 €.
Minor vs major service: what’s the difference
A minor (regular) service is mechanical cleaning and checks. That’s also what a typical combi boiler service looks like. The technician opens the unit, cleans the burner and heat exchanger, checks the pressure, replaces seals, measures flue gases and restarts the boiler.
A major service adds chemical descaling of the heat exchanger. Limescale reduces flow and water heating, so the boiler burns more gas. Technicians often recommend a minor service every year and a major one every two to three years. With hard water, even more often. For instantaneous water heaters, a common tip is descaling at least once every 24 months.
Don’t let anyone talk you into a major service “just in case”. Ask what they saw on the heat exchanger and why they recommend it.
When to service your boiler and stove
The best time for an annual gas boiler service is September, October or early November. The appliance is cold, and technicians have more free slots.
Don’t wait for the season if you notice:
- the boiler often shuts off or shows an error,
- system pressure keeps dropping,
- the water is lukewarm even with the boiler at maximum,
- banging, whistling or hissing noises,
- a smell of gas (then close the valve right away, air out the room and call the gas distributor’s emergency line, not a technician).
With pellet stoves the signs are different: the stove shuts off after ignition, the glass blackens quickly, there are many unburnt pellets in the burn pot, or the fan hums oddly.
What to ask before you book
Two services at 120 € aren’t necessarily the same job. Ask:
- whether the technician is authorised for your brand (Vaillant, Bosch, Viessmann, etc.),
- what exactly is included: seals, flue gas measurement, bleeding radiators,
- whether the call-out is included or charged separately,
- whether you get a service certificate,
- how much chemical descaling costs if needed,
- for pellet stoves: whether travel is charged per kilometre.

How to write a request so quotes are comparable
A good request saves you phone calls. Include:
- appliance type: instantaneous, combi, condensing boiler or pellet stove / boiler,
- brand, model and year (it’s on the rating plate),
- last service: when it was and whether descaling was done,
- city and neighbourhood,
- the problem, if any (error code, pressure drop, shutting off),
- preferred date and when you’re home.
Example: “Vaillant combi boiler, 2016, last serviced two years ago. Zagreb, Trešnjevka. Pressure drops now and then. I need a regular service and a certificate. Date by the end of October.”
Ask each technician for the same structure: service price, call-out, descaling if needed, certificate and timing. Only then can you compare fairly.
